Position Highlights | The University of Arizona Steward Observatory is seeking a first-year post-doc to support a research team focused on architectural and performance modeling of future cislunar satellite constellations. Through our research we intend to analyze and optimize multi-satellite constellations to maximum mission utility for space domain awareness (SDA) applications with electro-optical and passive radio-frequency (RF) sensor systems and innovative cooperative position/navigation/timing (PNT) approaches. We will use this notional architecture to assess the various trades and opportunities for synoptic surveillance of the cislunar domain and provide foundational infrastructure for mutual self-navigation and robust communications. Since many proposed missions such as communication relays, lunar surface GPS share the foundational form of several satellites sharing a common cislunar orbit, our tools will be extensible beyond the SDA mission which is the focus of this solicitation. This position requires software-based model-based systems engineering experience, including SysML integration with STK and other external software and capturing mission level requirements and traceability in SysML. Space systems modeling and simulation experience preferred. A successful candidate should have foundational familiarity with the SDA mission and a desire to apply an integrated MBSE-DE approach to bring a new comprehensive approach to mission oriented system-of-systems trade studies. This position will work on a project that requires the incumbent to have US citizenship and eligibility for DoD security clearance. Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more! The University of Arizona has been recognized for our innovative work-life programs.
